After one losing season, the expectations for Kentucky's women’s basketball team haven’t changed. Coach Matthew Mitchell has been clear on that point.
“The NCAA Tournament is a realistic goal and is something that we should expect of ourselves this season,” Mitchell said.
In 2017-18, Mitchell’s Wildcats missed the NCAA Tournament after a run of eight trips in a row. A 15-17 record (6-10 in the Southeastern Conference) made for the program’s first losing season since 2003-04.
There was an eight-game losing streak at the end of nonconference play, including an 87-63 home loss to rival Louisville.
