A historic fresco mural in Memorial Hall will be temporarily covered because it depicts slaves, according to a blog post by President Eli Capilouto.
The mural was completed in 1934 by Ann Rice O’Hanlon, an alumnus who studied art. the mural is “considered to be one of the only true frescoes” located in the U.S, according to the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts.
“It is a point of deeply held concern for the two dozen Black and African American students who talked with me and other members of the University administration two weeks ago,” Capilouto said in the blog post.
