LEXINGTON, Ky. – The segment of Kentucky football fans clamoring for a quarterback change finally got their first look at Auburn transfer Joey Gatewood on Saturday.
With a win over Mississippi State locked up, Kentucky coach Mark Stoops sent Gatewood and a host of young skill position players into the game for the Wildcats’ final offensive drive of the 24-2 victory.
It is difficult to make any conclusions from such a brief cameo with few starters for either team on the field, but Gatewood’s first pass as a Kentucky quarterback ended in the same way many of Terry Wilson’s have this season: bouncing on the ground despite being placed in catchable range of a Wildcat receiver.
