A day after being held to four hits in a 15-1 loss, the University of Kentucky baseball team quickly rediscovered its offense — and also got a huge lift on defense.
The ninth-ranked Cats belted back-to-back homers in two different innings on their way to a 10-5 win over South Carolina at Cliff Hagan Stadium on Sunday to take the three-game series against the Gamecocks. The Cats had 13 hits. All nine starters reached base safely at least once and eight of the nine had base hits.
Kentucky rolled to a 14-1 win in Friday’s series opener behind a stellar start from reigning Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year Sean Hjelle, who allowed five hits and struck out eight over seven innings.
