UK athletics would conduct 'due diligence' before naming media room after @NotJerryTipton

A University of Kentucky athletics spokesman said Sunday night that the department would "conduct the appropriate due diligence " before deciding whether to name a media workroom in an athletics facility in honor of a man who operated a controversial social media account that supported the Wildcats.

The parody account, @NotJerryTipton, had built a following of more than 70,000 Twitter users. It published posts that celebrated UK sports and its athletes while deriding rival teams and their fans and, at times, ridiculing supporters of social justice movements and launching obscene personal attacks against local media members and others who Lee Stewart, the man behind the page who died unexpectedly in August, disagreed with.
