Tshiebwe competed in Lexington on Friday, but I’m not talking about Oscar. A thoroughbred, who adopted the name Tshiebwe after the former National Player of the Year, took the track in Race 10 at Keeneland on Friday.
While sports betting might not quite be legal in Kentucky yet, basketball fans who love the human version of Oscar and attended Keeneland got an opportunity to place a wager on the equine version.
Trained by the infamous Todd Pletcher and owned by WinStar Farm LLC, Tshiebwe is a 3-year-old colt sired by Race Day.
In the 1 1/16 mile race for 3-year-olds, Maiden Special Weight with a $100,000 purse, Tshiebwe started in the 10th post position and went off with 5/2 odds, no doubt due in part to his namesake and his high-profile trainer.
