Who’s ready for a day of racing? Believe it or not, it’s officially Oaks Day, a little over four months after the originally scheduled date of May 1.
This afternoon, the Longines Kentucky Oaks – America’s premier and most lucrative race for 3-year old fillies – is set to take place at 5:45 p.m. ET, with 13 total races running throughout the day.
The Oaks is a $1.25 Million Grade 1 stakes race, which will award the winning filly a garland of lilies, one of the longest continually held sporting events in American history. First established on May 19th, 1875, the Kentucky Oaks is the second highest attended horse race in the United States.
