Prior to the scandal, EJ Montgomery was headed to Auburn.
Once Auburn assistant Chuck Person was arrested, Montgomery opened his recruitment back up and eventually landed in Lexington.
The Courier-Journal has the story:
One day after Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person was one of 10 people arrested as part of the investigation in September 2017, five-star forward EJ Montgomery decommitted from the Tigers. Almost seven months later, he committed to Kentucky.
Now Montgomery opens his freshman season as the highest-rated recruit in UK’s 2018 signing class at No. 9 overall.
“Didn’t expect it to go like this, but I’m happy here and just ready to compete,” Montgomery told the Courier Journal in a preseason one-on-one interview last month just before the one-year anniversary of the scandal.
