Texas A&M paid Jimbo Fisher a record $76 million buyout to go away, only to bring in a defensive-minded Jimbo Fisher disciple — and his name isn’t Mark Stoops.
The Aggies are set to hire Duke’s Mike Elko as the program’s next head coach, according to a number of reports from local and national sources.
Elko was the defensive coordinator in College Station under Fisher from 2018-21 before taking the head coaching job at Duke. From there, he led the Blue Devils to a 9-4 record in year one — the team’s best since 2014 — then a 7-5 record this past season.
