Tai Wynyard had a breakout summer at the World Cup. Now, he's eyeing more minutes at UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The best individual performance from a UK basketball player at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Egypt did not come from projected starter Hamidou Diallo.

It did not come from five-star freshman forward PJ Washington.

It was little-used sophomore reserve Tai Wynyard who took home that honor.

“I saw Tai over in Egypt,” said UK coach John Calipari, who coached Diallo and Washington on the U.S. team in the tournament. “Tai’s better.”

Wynyard ranked fourth among all players in the tournament in scoring (14.
