After his team drew the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region opposite North Carolina, John Calipari was a relatively jolly man on ESPN’s Bracketology show. Unlike years past, Cal did not rant about his team’s path, but did point out that their first round opponent, Abilene Christian, could present some problems.
“Let’s try to win six. I’m telling you, what we’re trying to do is beat Abilene right now. Abilene Christian shoots 40 percent from the three-point line. Figured we’d have somebody like that that’s launching threes. Now all of a sudden you’re going to have to play and you’re going to have to guard threes which means long rebounds, which gives them second chance opportunities.
