Sure, we’re all disappointed with how Kentucky’s season ended, but UCLA’s Steve Alford feels so bad about the Bruins’ poor finish that he’s returning his contract extension as penance. Even though his team beat Kentucky — the benchmark of a successful season for most programs — Alford said their 15-17 record wasn’t up to UCLA standards.
“At the end of the day, year three was clearly not up to UCLA standards. My coaching staff and I fell short not only of our own expectations, but the expectations of [athletic director] Dan [Guerrero], the chancellor and you, our fans,” Alford said in a letter to Bruins Nation.
