South Carolina star safety Jamyest Williams enters transfer portal, will sit out the rest of the year

South Carolina will be without its star safety not only this weekend against Kentucky, but for the remainder of the season.

Jamyest Williams, a 5-foot-9 defensive back out of Loganville, GA, has entered his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal and will redshirt this season to preserve a year of eligibility as he looks elsewhere.

Williams, who was ranked No. 39 (ESPN) in the 2017 recruiting class and originally chose the Gamecocks over Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Auburn, among others, started the first three games of the season for South Carolina.

Through four games this year, Williams was fifth on the team with 16 tackles (five solo).
