If there was blame to be placed for Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles missing on some big throws in the second half of last Saturday’s win over Lousiana-Lafayette, then first-year offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson was pointing the finger directly at himself.
To be sure, Dawson said Towles could have completed passes — “There were probably three of them that were bad throws,” Dawson said Tuesday — that would have put the game out of reach and avoided Kentucky’s 40-33 cliff-hanging win. But Dawson claimed he was at fault, as well, for being too aggressive at times. Sure, Louisiana’s defense dared Kentucky to throw deep, but Dawson said he could have been more judicious in his deep-ball calls.
