The SEC is marking 50 years since the beginning of the conference’s sports integration, and it’s rolling out a special tribute this weekend.

The conference plans to commemorate the milestone Saturday with a one-minute video message that will appear across televised games on CBS and ESPN networks this weekend.

On September 30, 1967, Kentucky defensive back/running back Nate Northington (pictured above) became the first black football player to compete against another SEC school when he played against Ole Miss.

Northington, who made his football debut September 23 of that year against Indiana, was one of two Wildcats on the 1967 team to break the conference’s color barrier, alongside teammate Greg Page.
