Kentucky’s second string quarterback was in a position he previously filled at Troy. Like his first pass at Troy, five plays after Smith replaced Wilson, he threw a touchdown pass on his first attempt. The 54-yard fade to Ahmad Wagner is the longest play of Kentucky’s season so far, and just seven yards longer than the touchdown strike he had as Troy’s quarterback in 2016 against Austin Peay.
“I’m glad they kinda got me going, let me cut loose a little bit and play football,” Smith said after the game.
Smith led Kentucky on another scoring drive in the fourth quarter, completing 5-of-9 passes for 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
