President Eli Capilouto announced Monday in an email sent to faculty and staff that the University would not destroy, remove of permanently hide the mural in Memorial Hall.
The mural has been the subject of a racial discourse among students, faculty and administration for many years now, but the dialogue gained its second wind following a meeting between two dozen students and President Capilouto regarding the racial climate of the university.
“We will not destroy or remove or permanently hide the mural, but we will make the story told in the atrium of Memorial Hall more complete,” Capilouto said in the letter.
