Pregame handshake snub helped fire up Kentucky in win over South Carolina

Could a handshake have played a role in Kentucky’s 23-13 win at South Carolina on Saturday? The Wildcats seem to think so.

When Kentucky captains offensive lineman Nick Haynes, safety Mike Edwards, quarterback Stephen Johnson and linebacker Courtney Love went out for the pregame coin toss, the Gamecocks captains didn’t shake hands as is customary to do.

That moment wasn’t soon forgotten by the Wildcats.

“That just fired us up even more,” Johnson told reporters. “Gave us even more motivation, which was pretty stupid on their part, but they just didn’t want to shake our hands.
