After all the pregame excitement, Stanley “Boom” Williams delivered the biggest thrill with a 75-yard touchdown run from scrimmage on the first play of the season to christen the new Commonwealth Stadium. The Cats rolled to a quick 21-0 lead early in the second quarter, but Louisiana-Lafayette later “flipped the script,” scoring three touchdowns in nine minutes to tie the ballgame. Despite the setback, an impressive 12-yard touchdown run by Mikel Horton sealed the opening win for the Cats.
