Arguably Joker Phillips’ most heralded recruit, fans clamored to see Towles play as a true freshman. After patiently waiting through five games, his first snaps under center for Kentucky came against Mississippi State in 2012.
On his first drive Towles completed 5 of 6 passes for 71 yards, finishing the drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass. Unfortunately, the momentum behind Patrick could not be sustained. Two drives later, he took a low hit and sprained his ankle, seemingly keeping him out for the rest of the season.
Patrick did not forget what the Dogs did to him when he suited up against the #1 team in the nation in Commonwealth Stadium.
