LEXINGTON, Ky. - The UK baseball team will not be playing in this season's NCAA Tournament, but it appears it will not need to worry about finding a new coach.
"I will be the head coach," UK coach Nick Mingione said Tuesday when asked if he will definitely be in Lexington next season. "...I will be the coach at Kentucky, yes.”
Mingione has been tied to the Mississippi State job since former Bulldogs coach Andy Cannizaro resigned in February.
Shortly after the job opened, Mingione acknowledged it was only natural to hear his name connected with the Mississippi State considering his long tenure there as an assistant coach for current Bulldogs athletics director John Cohen but he has repeatedly reminded reporters of his allegiance to Kentucky, where he also previously worked as an assistant for Cohen.
