NCAA instructs divisions to decide on fall sports by August 21

As expected, the NCAA is pushing the decision on fall sports back even further.

The Board of Governors just announced that each of the organization’s three divisions (Divisions I, II, III) will have until August 21 to determine whether or not they can meet the requirements to hold fall championships in cross country, soccer, field hockey, men’s water polo and women’s volleyball, along with lower-division football like the FCS. The FBS holds its own championship, the College Football Playoff, so it is not directly impacted.

Those requirements include:

  • All fall sports activity (preseason, regular season and postseason) must follow the recently released return-to-sport guidelines from the NCAA Sport Science Institute for all athletic activity.
