RALEIGH — NC State announced Wednesday the hiring of Joker Phillips as its new wide receivers coach and assistant head coach.
Phillips replaces George McDonald, who left for Illinois last month to do the same job.
Phillips, 57, who had the same role at Maryland last season, was the wide receivers coach for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in 2017 and 2018, and he coached WRs at UC in 1997 and defensive backs in 1998. He was the University of Kentucky Wildcats' head coach from 2010 to 2012, and was an assistant at UK from 1988 to 1996 and again from 2003 to 2009.
