Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops signed a contract extension with $8.6 million per-season to stay in Lexington through the 2030 football season.
Perhaps more significantly, the extension also raised Stoops’ buyout price to $4.5 million from the $1.75 million it had been prior. The move was likely a necessity for Barnhart, seeing as Stoops’ name came up in multiple schools’ searches for a new head coach throughout the season.
The extension also increased Stoops’ bonus potential. Stoops is set to earn $100,000 for every season Kentucky makes a bowl, $150,000 for every season Kentucky reaches eight or more wins, $500,000 if the Wildcats make the College Football Playoffs, $650,000 if Kentucky makes the National Championship Game and $800,000 if Kentucky wins a National Championship.
