Former University of Kentucky Wildcats player Mark Pope, the head basketball coach at Utah Valley University, is expected to be named as Dave Rose's replacement as head coach at Brigham Young University, per a report from sltrib.com's Jay Drew.
Rose, BYU's all-time winningest men's basketball coach, announced his retirement last month after 14 years as the Cougars' head coach.
Pope received an endorsement from Rick Pitino, his former coach at UK, and others have suggested since late last month on social media that Pope would be a good fit for BYU:
The 46-year-old Pope, a member of Kentucky's 1996 NCAA Championship team, was an assistant at BYU under Rose from 2011 to 2015 before taking the job as head coach at Utah Valley.
