Louisville ends UK’s baseball season two wins short of College World Series

Brendan McKay was as good as advertised, Drew Ellis hit two more home runs, and Louisville defeated Kentucky 6-2 to sweep the NCAA super regional and end the Wildcats’ dream season two victories short of the College World Series.

McKay — Baseball America’s national player of the year — didn’t allow a run until the fifth and lasted 6 2/3 innings. The junior left-hander gave up eight hits, two runs and recorded nine strikeouts while walking no one in what is likely to be his final appearance at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Cats fell behind 4-1 in the top of the sixth inning, but they had a chance to get to McKay and the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh.
