Louisville baseball avenges loss to Kentucky with blowout in rematch in Lexington

LEXINGTON — Louisville extracted some revenge for Kentucky's upset win at Jim Patterson Stadium in emphatic fashion during the rematch Tuesday in Lexington.

The No. 9 Cardinals scored five runs in the top of the first inning to blow the game open early, then cruised to a 12-5 victory. Louisville's win prevented Kentucky from earning its first regular season sweep of the rivalry series since 2014.

Louisville plated its first run when Kentucky starting pitcher Zach Kammin hit left fielder Trey Leonard with a pitch with the bases loaded to force home second baseman Cooper Bowman. Kammin forced in another run with a walk of third baseman Lucas Dunn before designated hitter Dalton Rushing drove home two runs with a double.
