College basketball lost one of its most colorful characters today. Legendary Villanova coach Rollie Massimino passed away at the age of 82 at his home in Florida. In 1985, Massimino’s Wildcats beat Patrick Ewing and No. 1 Georgetown for the National Championship in Rupp Arena in what is still considered one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history.
Earlier this week, John Calipari tweeted an update on Massimino and encouraged Kentucky fans to pray on his behalf. A few minutes ago, he posted this tribute to the coaching legend:
