LEXINGTON — Six games were enough for Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart to feel comfortable about the future of the women's basketball program.
Following a 6-0 start to the 2020-21 season, interim head coach Kyra Elzy was given the job on a full-time basis Monday. Elzy had been named interim coach in November after the retirement of Mathew Mitchell due to medical reasons.
With Elzy at the helm, Kentucky has risen to No. 9 in the most recent USA TODAY Coaches Poll. The Wildcats already hold a win over No. 15 Indiana, though Elzy missed that game due to a non-COVID-19 medical issue.
