KSR SOURCES: Gov. Beshear to issue executive order for Name, Image, Likeness rights for Kentucky student-athletes

In one week, college athletics as know it will change, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is making sure Kentucky isn’t left behind.

Multiple sources tell KSR that Governor Beshear is planning to issue an executive order this afternoon to require all colleges in Kentucky to allow athletes to make money based on their name, image, and likeness. We’re hearing the order will go into effect next week. On July 1, six states — Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and New Mexico — have laws set to go into effect undercutting the existing NCAA rules to allow student-athletes to make money off sponsorship deals, online endorsements and personal appearances.
