Kentucky’s Pass Defense Has Been Good, Really Good in Fact

Kentucky’s run to a 10-3 record and a Citrus Bowl win over Penn State was led on defense by the program’s all-time sack leader in Josh Allen and four defensive backs that are currently in the NFL: Derrick Baity Jr., Mike Edwards, Chris Westry and Lonnie Johnson. That team finished 4th in the SEC’s Pass Defense category after allowing 186 yard per game while intercepting 9 passes and recording 38 QB sacks. Mark Stoops was faced with the tall task of replacing a plethora of elite talent in 2019. He did so by putting together a unit that went on to lead the SEC in pass defense in back-to-back seasons.
