Talk about who should be the next coach of the Louisville men’s basketball program has turned to Kenny Payne, Kentucky Coach John Calipari’s longtime assistant and a former standout player for the Cardinals.
WDRB columnist Rick Bozich talked with a few Louisville legends about the possibility in a story posted Wednesday.
“Hiring Kenny would bring the players, the fans and the city together again,” Billy Thompson, who was on Louisville’s 1986 NCAA title team, told Bozich. “People would look at Louisville and say, ‘They’ve got it going on again.’”
Former Louisville stars Pervis Ellison, Billy Thompson, Milt Wagner, the McCray brothers and others know their guy as the next Louisville basketball coach -- Kenny Payne, who also gets a thumbs up from Larry Brown.
