The 2012 National Championship team can add another trophy to the shelf. The Associated Press Top 25 panel voted the 2011-12 Kentucky Wildcats the best college basketball team of the decade. The 2012 Cats beat the 2017-18 Villanova championship team for the honor, appearing on 21 of the 26 ballots.
I don’t need to remind you of the 2011-12 team’s accomplishments, but here’s a rundown from UK Athletics:
- Snapped a 14-year title drought with the program’s eighth national championship.
- Finished the season with 38 wins, still tied for the most in NCAA Division I history with the 2014-15 Kentucky team
- Freshman Anthony Davis won all but one of the major national player of the year awards and set a school record for blocked shots with 186, in addition to averaging a team-best 14.
