Kentucky is off to a 1-0 start after cruising past Southern Miss 31-0 on a bizarre Saturday night at Kroger Field.
The started of the game was delayed well over two hours because of lightning in the Lexington area.
After a shortened halftime break, the Wildcats added a touchdown in the third quarter. Shortly after that, lightning was detected in the area once again, forced a halt in play.
After a meeting, officials decided to suspend the game and make it official with 9:56 to play in the third quarter:
“By mutual agreement of the participating institutions as permitted by NCAA rules, tonight’s game between Kentucky and Southern Mississippi has been terminated and is considered a complete game with a final score of 31-0 in favor of Kentucky.
