A top 15 player in the talent-rich state of South Carolina, Phillips actually grew up in Louisville. His father, Carlos, played in the AAAA state championship with Owensboro before signing to play for Jerry Claiborne’s Cats. Carlos Phillips lettered in 1989 as an offensive tackle.
The younger Phillips could follow in his father’s footsteps.
