Kentucky Freshman DB Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky true freshman cornerback Chris Westry has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com for his performance in Kentucky’s 26-22 victory over South Carolina on Saturday.

Westry, who has made an immediate impact on the Kentucky secondary since arriving on campus earlier this year, made several clutch plays against the Gamecocks to seal Kentucky’s first SEC road win since 2009 and the Wildcats’ first win at South Carolina since 1999.

The native of Orange Park, Fla., made his biggest play late in the game, gathering his first career interception on South Carolina’s final possession of the game to help seal the win.
