Kentucky football coach Steve Clinkscale to return for 2018 season

LEXINGTON, Ky. - While UK has parted ways with football assistant coach Lamar Thomas, defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale, whose contract was also set to expire, will return in 2018.

Clinkscale’s current UK contract pays him $300,000 per year and runs through June 30. A new contract has yet to be signed, but Clinkscale's return was confirmed to Courier Journal by a UK spokeswoman.

Clinkscale joined UK prior to the 2016 season after stints at Cincinnati, Illinois, Toledo and Western Carolina. A Youngstown, Ohio native like Stoops and UK recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow, Clinkscale found success recruiting Michigan for the Wildcats, landing four-star lineman Marquan McCall, the highest-rated recruiting in UK’s 2018 class according to Rivals.
