The UK baseball team got a bit of a late scare, but the Wildcats held on to beat Ohio 6-4 on Friday afternoon in the opener of the NCAA Tournament regional at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
UK ace Sean Hjelle pitched seven scoreless innings — not allowing a runner past second base — before giving up a three-run home run to Ohio’s Rudy Rott in the eighth inning to bring the Bobcats within 6-3.
Chris Machamer came on to relieve Hjelle with zero outs in the eighth and got the Cats out of the inning without any further damage.
