LEXINGTON — The Southeastern Conference’s move to cancel nonconference football games this fall could save Kentucky more than $2 million.
Unless the Wildcats’ scheduled nonconference opponents push for financial compensation for the canceled games.
“The university is in discussions with all nonconference opponents,” a UK spokesman said in a statement provided to The Courier Journal. “We will share final resolution of all those talks.”
On Thursday, the SEC announced plans to play a 10-game 2020 schedule made of only conference games. UK’s previously scheduled games against Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Eastern Illinois and Louisville were canceled as a result.
