LEXINGTON - University of Kentucky basketball players are receiving a crash course in the history of the place they practice in this week.

Before Friday’s exhibition game against Kentucky State, UK players will wear warmup shirts honoring Adamstown, the African American community that was demolished to build Memorial Coliseum. The Joe Craft Center, the practice facility for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, now sits on the same land.

“It is of the utmost importance that we take the opportunity to remember our trailblazers and remember our history,” said Dr. Sonja Feist-Price, UK’s vice president for the Office of Institutional Diversity.
