LEXINGTON — Kentucky basketball star Oscar Tshiebwe is inching closer to earning consensus National Player of the Year honors.
On Tuesday, the National Association of Basketball Coaches Association named Tshiebwe its National Player of the Year, joining The Sporting News as the second of the six major Player of the Year awards to honor Tshiebwe. The winner of the Naismith Player of the Year, Associated Press Player of the Year, John Wooden Award and Oscar Robertson Trophy have yet to be announced.
Tshiebwe is the first Southeastern Conference Player named NABC Player of the Year since the coaches began naming a National Player of the Year in 1975.
