Kentucky basketball, John Calipari raise $1 million for Hurricane Harvey relief

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The families of University of Kentucky coaches John Calipari, Mark Stoops and Matthew Mitchell each donated $25,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief on Sunday.

The pledges were made during a telethon, hosted by Calipari as Wildcats basketball players fielded phone calls alongside Red Cross workers.

The total raised reached $1 million, Calipari announced via Twitter after the three-hour event.

"We're doing what we can do," Calipari, who donated an additional $50,000 near the end of the telethon, said. "Food, shelter, medicine, water, all those things.
