GREENSBORO, N.C. — After nearly four years, the drought is over. Kentucky has won an NCAA Tournament game.
In a first-round matchup Friday night at Greensboro Coliseum, sixth-seeded Kentucky downed 11-seed Providence 61-53.
It’s the Wildcats’ first March Madness victory since they beat Houston in the 2019 Sweet 16 before losing to Auburn in the next round. The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. UK didn’t qualify in 2021, and it lost last season in a first-round upset to No. 15 Saint Peter’s.
