Allen is the only defensive player on the list of five finalists. He joins four quarterbacks: West Virginia’s Will Grier, Washington State’s Gardner Minshew, Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. That list alone says a lot about Allen’s dominant season.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors. The winner will be announced live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, December 6.
Last year’s winner was Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, who is now a star with the Cleveland Browns in his rookie season.
