John L. Smith is Back to Coaching in Kentucky

Rumors had been circulating for weeks that former Louisville football coach John L. Smith would the returning to the Bluegrass, but it’s in a different role than some had expected. Smith will take over the football program at JT’s alma mater, Kentucky State, according to Football Scoop. It was originally believed that John L. would take on the task of building Bellarmine’s football program from scratch.

It’s a return trip to the state where he coached the Louisville Cardinals from 1998 until 2002. His departure was stranger than Bobby Petrino’s, the man he replaced at Arkansas as the interim coach for a year after the “motorcycle accident.
