Indiana head coach John Calipari? According to The Athletic’s Bob Kravitz, it was a brief possibility following Bob Knight’s departure and before Calipari’s time at Kentucky.
In a feature analyzing Indiana basketball post-Knight and the future of the program, former Hoosier guard Brian Evans (1992-96) revealed that Calipari made it clear that he was interested in taking over as head coach following Mike Davis’ time in Bloomington (2000-06). Davis, who was initially named interim coach after Knight was fired in 2000 and stayed five years at IU, resigned in 2006. At that point, Calipari expressed interest in the job.
