LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Kentucky may not have won a national championship this season, but coach John Calipari ranks first among NCAA Tournament coaches in salary.

According to a USA Today database, Calipari’s $7.14 million compensation from the UK athletics’ department was more than $1.5 million more than the second-highest payment from a school to its coach, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski ($5.55 million).

Calipari ranked second among tournament coaches in total pay, which includes self-reported compensation outside the university, to Louisville’s Rick Pitino. Calipari reported $295,376 in outside compensation for total earnings of $7.
