LEXINGTON - Hours after the death of former Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall, current UK coach John Calipari opened the Wildcats' game against rival Tennessee with a rolled up program clutched in hand.
The gesture was designed to honor Hall, mimicking Hall's oft-used coaching stance immortalized in a statue outside the UK players' dormitory. UK opened the game in a 1-3-1 zone defense, Hall's preferred scheme.
Before the game, UK played a tribute video honoring Hall on the Rupp Arena video board then held a moment of silence in his honor.
Hall, who coached Kentucky to the 1978 national championship, died Saturday morning.
