Another day, another incredibly shocking upset in the NCAA Tournament.
This time, it was 1-seeded Illinois who went down before the first weekend even concluded, as the Loyola Ramblers pulled off a 71-58 win during Sunday’s Round of 32 action.
Illinois, who entered the day as the No. 2 overall team in KenPom efficiency, was completely undone by the Ramblers’ stifling defense en route to a season-low 58 points.
If not for Gonzaga’s unbeaten record, Illinois would have been in the running for the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, so this is a very shocking upset, even though Loyola has already made one miracle Final Four run in the last three years.
