LEXINGTON – More than 20 years before he was calling plays in the NFL, new Kentucky football offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello was a high school coach with no college playing experience looking for a job.
Even with a mutual friend to vouch for him, it took a leap of faith for Scangarello to walk into UC Davis coach Bob Biggs’ office and ask if there was room for a volunteer assistant on his staff.
But that confidence proved the catalyst to one of the most unusual coaching journeys that would bring him to the top level of the sport.
